I usually do exactly what you are proposing - bias cloth on the outside and 2" tape on the inside. The only possible difference is that I buy 4 oz. tape and most tapes are 6 oz.

I never had a problem with bending or making the glass tape conform as others say. Maybe if you are attaching a deck to a hull with a severe right angle joint?? My seams are usually quite smooth.
I once tried cutting my own cloth on a bias and using that on the inside and it turned into a swearing session. Since I couldn't make bias cloth strips as long as the boat, the joints in the cloth turned into a mess especially where it was difficult to reach. Anyhow, there's lots of was to do things and some use one or the other with good luck.
