: I usually do exactly what you are proposing - bias cloth on the
: outside and 2" tape on the inside. The only possible
: difference is that I buy 4 oz. tape and most tapes are 6 oz.
: I use a method I worked out that you can see here:
: I never had a problem with bending or making the glass tape conform
: as others say. Maybe if you are attaching a deck to a hull with
: a severe right angle joint?? My seams are usually quite smooth.
: I once tried cutting my own cloth on a bias and using that on the
: inside and it turned into a swearing session. Since I couldn't
: make bias cloth strips as long as the boat, the joints in the
: cloth turned into a mess especially where it was difficult to
: reach. Anyhow, there's lots of was to do things and some use one
: or the other with good luck.
Never thought about that, the strippers I've built have had an almost 90 degree angle where the hull/deck join so the factory tape wasn't easy. If they instead had a more 180 degree joint it would obviously be much easier.
I use a partial sheer strake in the ends so I don't do the long distance pushing of wet tape routine. It's pretty easy to apply the bias tape in the middle of the boat where you can easily reach from either a hatch or the cockpit. With normal 60" to 70" cloth widths you can get 7' to 8' bias tapes so here are at most 2 joints, not hard.
