Yes it's a tough bend. Took clamps shoulder to shoulder...I had about 50 in use. Since it's a compound bend, I found that C-clamps really put the squeeze on any puckers so was glad I had several. I was able to bend the 1/16" thick maple strips completely around the riser and staggered the joints. For me, one strip at a time was the only way.

If you can't make the tight bend at the front, a solid piece can be fabricated as in Nicks video.

Use some spacer blocks (5/8" thick as I recall) to maintain the distance from the deck.

Also walnut is not the easiest wood to bend. You might try steaming it if possible or using a heat gun as you work it around.
