That sounds good in theory but in practice you have to make a perfect seal with no pin holes . If you do and a crack develops down the road. Either one can allow water into the wood then it will never dry out and it rot.

Without the coating the wood can get wet and dry and rot it not typically a problem. 'To me' it seems to be a curing a problem that really doesn't exist.
