Strip: hatch seal splice

Is there a preferred way to splice a weatherstrip hatch seal? I have a molded lip with a groove that I will be placing weatherstripping in. As it wraps around and meets up with itself, is it best to just butt the 2 ends, or bevel vertically, or horizontally?
