: Kevlar is very strong in tension and that's why it is used in/on
: boat hulls. But it is poor as an abrasion layer over anything
: because it's yarns are so stong. If you gouge Kevlar hard enough
: yarns will be pulled loose. On production boats the problem is
: contrilled because there is athick gell-coat over the Kevlar.
: Trying to repair such gouges rather futile because the yarns are
: difficult to cut off and sanding Kevlar is a waste of time. It
: makes yellow fuzz that almost impossible to get rid of.
: Other problems are weight caused by Kevlar's ability to soak up
: vast amounts of epoxy and the fast that it never wets out clear.
: Kevlar works well in fabric laminate hulls where the Kevlar is on
: the inside and is covered by numerous layers of ordinary
: fiberglass.
