That's a good point. After the tube segments are tacked in place the thickness of the material which is later wrapped around the tube will have some thickness which will change the original tube alignment.

Hmm, the chewing gum and bailing wire approach would be to put a dab of chewing gum on the side of the tube which was not being tacked in place. do that for all the sections. After the glue holding the tube sections hardens you can rub off the chewing gum and when you wrap a reinforcing carbon or glass cloth over it, you should get back to the original spacing.

If yo are enrolled in the school of duct tape and WD-40, however, then you would put two or three layers of duct tape on those tube sections except where the tack gluing is happening. then peel off the tape and go for the glass, carbon, and resin.

: You will have to recess the wood between the hinge sections.

Well, that works too, and I don't waste any of my precious duct tape, or chewing gum on the project. :)
