I certainly never would have taken that route had I seen the warning sign off to the side. I paid a relatively small price for one big mistake and took that lesson with me for 2200-kms of river and lake paddling during the next bunch of years.

Same here, Bill. My body has aches I didn't know it could have without provocation. That said, I still love getting out there for long periods of time and am willing to risk getting lost in the wilderness and having to tough it out while I find my way around. Here's to the next 30-yrs of paddling.
