Doing something that scientific would also indicate a need for a consistent tension on the fabric, which from what I've read isn't necessarily possible. Not that I've built one yet.

The coatings themselves should be able to be tested for hardness and general durability on other surfaces (a consistent application on plate glass, for example), and then comparisons could be made with fabrics for flexibility and adhesion to the material in question (although you would want to test both dyed/undyed fabrics, etc.). It would be quite an undertaking to really get a comprehensive, accurate measure.

Personally, I'm looking forward to Corey's Goop on 8 oz Nylon dyed red, as it's my first, and will be a learning kayak for me. :)
