: I want to build a S&G boat to compete in and win a Triathalon
: at the end of May 2011 I want a good fast boat but I also want
: it to be a good all around versitale boat for river and open
: water. This will be my first boat and want to keep it simple,
: thats why im going the S&G route. Any advice would be very
: welcomed.
Not sure about your experience, but what looks to be a pretty fast S&G would be the CLC Pax 18. I have never used or seen one though. Unless you have some paddling experience that would be a pretty tippy boat to get started on though. Also it is not really a boat I would choose to use on open water unless the weather was good and the water was flat.
I have a Waters Dancing Solace 17EX and it is a pretty fast general purpose kayak- not too many kayaks are as fast as it. It looks like the Pygmy Murrelet boats have a similar water profile to that so they are likely pretty quick also. You might also look at the options from One Ocean Kayaks' Cirrus S&G kayaks.
