Hi Charlie,
I don't know the Great Auk hull, but it won't have a ridge running down the centre as S&G hulls do, so don't use a strip. A football is only necessary if you plan on using it roughly, in surf, rock gardens, rivers with rocks and logs and the like. Even then it can be overkill. Most people are fairly careful with their strippers.
