Now that would be an ambitious project *grin*.

Nah, I've been using 8' lengths for all my stock except the one. I wish my Lowe's sold the longer lengths of select pine, as I would not have had to scarf the 6' on. Since that jig I rigged up is set for a 12:1 slope, my overlap on the scarf joint is 18". That brings two 8' lengths scarfed together to an overall length of 14 - 1/2'. The more I thought about it, the more I wasn't comfortable with simply sticking to that length for the gunwale and trying to make it up in the stem plates.

At that point, I could very well have used an 8' length, but the 6' should produce less scrap when I trim the ends to length. No sense wasting the extra 2'. It was a buck cheaper, too (I'd love to have a stock of lumber sitting and waiting, but when Lowe's is about a three minute drive away...)
