: I'm considering trying an automotive clear coat for my final finish
: rather than marine finish since I've got a relative with a paint
: booth and too much extra time on his hands...... Does anyone
: who's ever done this have ideas on what clear coat to use? I'm
: not sure which may or may not be compatible directly on glass.
: Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
Any clearcoat will be compatible over fully cured epoxy, if you go this route make sure that the whole boat is sanded to like 320 - 400 grit as the clear will not hide any scratches very well( I sanded mine to 320 and then rubbed the whole thing well with a maroon scotch brite pad). Auto clear gets its UV protection from mil thickness 6-7 mils is what I sprayed on mine a few weeks ago(two coats about 3 mils per coat). From what a auto shop told me this is sufficient. I would let your relative with the booth choose as he probably has a preffered brand (pick a brand and stick with it I always say). I am very happy with the way mine turned out and it was not even in a booth just a wet floor sprayed while everyone else was on lunch to keep the dust down! And only allowed 1 hour until everyone started sanding and grinding again. I cannot see any dust in it so yours in a booth will look very sexy indeed!
Good luck and let us know what brand you go with just for curiousness. And of course show a pic
