There's another trick, lots faster than using an awl or push pin. Go to your fabric store and get a pattern tracer, looks like a rolling knife except it's got a whole bunch of points on the wheel, just follow the lines on the plans and it'll make a whole series of holes that are easy to follow on the wood.

I knew I'd seen these before, just didn't remember what they were called, I'm no seamstress ;)
