I am building a cabinet from mostly recycled 2x4 scrap picked up at a construction project, and ended up with a scrap about 3/32" thick that I tried bending last night.

If I can get pieces that rip with nice grain, is there any reason I can't make ribs and coaming from fir?

Bend was made by soaking for 3 minutes in hot tap water, then pouring a pot of boiling water over it.
