I used peel ply for vaccuum laminating my cedar core - carbon skin skegs, and it worked very well. However, the skegs are reasonably flat, so there were no serious compound curves to deal with. The vacuum laminating definitely removed a bit of excess epoxy, but not a whole lot. The main thing it did for me is tightly squeeze the skin to the core on both sides and the leading edge of the skeg at the same time. I doubt that I could have made the carbon behave itself as well any other way.

I also intend to use it for vaccuum layup of the gasket supports around my hatch openings.

When I need to use something like saran wrap, I just use heavier polyethylene. I have used overlapping strips of 6mil poly to deal with complex curves. It will stretch somewhat to match convex surfaces, but not so well on concave. It peels completely cleanly - I haven't had it stick.
