Kind of late the party but tornado's tend not to care about things like electricity and internet.
I think it was Dave that suggested Rustoleum to me, it is my favorite finish over polyester. Not sure they even make a water based paint, but if it thins with acetone that is what I have been using and the results have been great. The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of color choices. I recently used a different brand porch and deck enamel that was mixed to get the color I wanted, but it is too soon to say if it is as good as Rustoleum or not.
I will give you a tip for Rustoleum, thin the first coat and will it saturate in the fabric better. I don't know if it seals any better but it gives the inside of the boat a nice even color. First one I did, the inside of the cockpit looked really blotchy and sort of ugly. It never leaked but it looked very amateurish to me. Thinning the first coat it comes out very evenly and looks much better. Especially on an open boat.
I tried a water based from Sherwin Williams and I am not impressed and will not use it again. Harder to apply, did not spread (no flow) evenly, took more coats to seal up. Plus it a little soft and skins and marks really easy. On the plus side it has stayed sealed and no leaks and it looks good where it has not be skinned. Supposed to be easier to touch up and that is good thing too! But I will not use it again.
