: Kind of late the party but tornado's tend not to care about things
: like electricity and internet.
: I think it was Dave that suggested Rustoleum to me, it is my
: favorite finish over polyester. Not sure they even make a water
: based paint, but if it thins with acetone that is what I have
: been using and the results have been great. The only thing I
: don't like about it is the lack of color choices. I recently
: used a different brand porch and deck enamel that was mixed to
: get the color I wanted, but it is too soon to say if it is as
: good as Rustoleum or not.
: I will give you a tip for Rustoleum, thin the first coat and will
: it saturate in the fabric better. I don't know if it seals any
: better but it gives the inside of the boat a nice even color.
: First one I did, the inside of the cockpit looked really blotchy
: and sort of ugly. It never leaked but it looked very amateurish
: to me. Thinning the first coat it comes out very evenly and
: looks much better. Especially on an open boat.
: I tried a water based from Sherwin Williams and I am not impressed
: and will not use it again. Harder to apply, did not spread (no
: flow) evenly, took more coats to seal up. Plus it a little soft
: and skins and marks really easy. On the plus side it has stayed
: sealed and no leaks and it looks good where it has not be
: skinned. Supposed to be easier to touch up and that is good
: thing too! But I will not use it again.
Rustoleum does indeed make a water based paint, don't use it on a SOF unless you just love painting, took me a whole bunch of coats and quarts of their paint to get near to an opaque finish. So many coats that I lost track and several quarts of paint.
Seems to hold up ok, I guess it should with something like 10 or 12 coats of paint on it.
