: Hello All,
: I am in the process of refinishing my Outer Island and was
: wondering how you guys go about varnishing the second time
: around. I used 100 grit to get most of the varnish off, however
: I noticed that there are lines in the surface of the gelcoat
: from sanding that will probably show up after varnishing. What
: would you recommend the next step be? I can see going to maybe a
: 220 grit next to reduce these lines but I'm at the point that I
: may be going a little too deep into the gel coat in some places.
What sort of lines Dave? from the sand paper? or gouges? and are you talking about a stripper, because they don't have a gelcoat. That is a colour coat. If there are gouges fill them with epoxy and sand flush. If simply scratch marks from sandpaper varnish will fill it.
