I buy fencing planks, WRC, cheap, readily available, slash cut - turns into vertical grain when I rip it. Now my local hardware store has finally got itself covered wood storage it's nice and dry, I can pick over it and I find about 70% is fine for boat building. The rest? I save it for repairing fences . . .
