Every production kayak I've ever paddled with a skeg or up/downhaul for rudder has been far too forward for my taste. I do not want to knock my knuckles against anything. I moved the up/downhaul for my ruddered production boat aft right at the back of the cockpit. So I have to turn a wee bit to deploy the rudder. Which I stubbornly refuse to do unless absolutely necessary, which is pretty much never anymore...
