My experience is that sliding a stormy in place routinely leaves a pile of scratches on all but plastic boat decks. I don't dote on my finishes, but it's easily enough to spur me into action. My solution is to make sure a lifeline or bungee is going across the deck where said abrasion is anticipated. If nothing's there, I'll make something there. One little bungee, plus a little care, oughta do it. In the photo below, the lifelines perform the function perfectly, and my job is to make sure I hit 'em.

I only worry about one end on the paddle; the other end I merely take care not to drag it across the deck, and this seems to work well without being fussy in any way.
