: Where should the control be mounted? I am right handed...

I'm right handed and have a bought boat with the skeg control on the right,
and a built boat where I put the skeg control on the left. Taking your right hand
off the paddle to operate the skeg leaves the paddle in your weaker hand, but
you can probably make adjustments more quickly and accurately with your
right hand and get it back to the right place on the paddle quicker, too.
Taking the left hand off the paddle leaves the paddle in the stronger hand,
but if my mind is on the skeg control, I'm unlikely to do anything useful with
the paddle one-handed. My left hand is slower to adjust the skeg, and probably
slower to get back to the right place on the paddle, so perhaps it was an error
to put the control on the left. I haven't found it makes much difference in
actual use, though. If it's really windy I tend to just drop a finger to the skeg
control while not letting go of the paddle at all, so the thing that matters most
is that the control moves smoothly and with little force. That's also the hardest
thing to get right :-(
