Strip: Petrel bow & stern

I though I'd start a new thread for this question.
If I was to build a Petrel, is it possible to reduce the kick-up (correct term??) at the ends without affecting the performance of the design? I figure it's mostly above the waterline except when burying at the bottom of a wave I may be surfing and also when meeting a head-on wave, it may even reduce windage.
I guess it could reduce the end volumes somewhat which may have an affect. The change in appearance doesn't bother me.
The purpose is to aleviate the need for the fitting of all the cheater strips & make the build a bit simpler for both the hull and the deck.
Any pearls of wisdom out there in kayak land?
