I would try popping into a Totem http://www.totem.ca/hours-and-locations.aspx along the way, there are a bunch of them. Tend to have a bit more decent lumber than the big boxes. I usually buy spruce so I am not too sure about the red cedar but it is decking season.

Also, not on your route but if all else fails, come on down to sunny southern Alberta (currently being deluged with rain). I have had good luck with the Cedar Shop http://www.cedarshop.com/ Their clear finished boards tend to be pricy (but perfect) but they also have rough sawn lumber that you can get cheap and they don't mind if you go picking. Its down in Calgary about 3 hours south of Edmonton.
