Hey Paul, it's a long story but I've considered all your suggestions. In these parts, finding clear wood of any kind is like finding hens teeth.... When it can be found, it's really expensive. I wouldn't mind paying the money if I new I was going to be happy with the boat.... This is my first attempt at a skin on frame. I'm pretty confident I'll end up with a usable craft but just the same I didn't want to spend a fortune on lumber.

As I write this, I just came in from gluing one of the scarf joints. So far so good...:) For those who care, I used Titebond III.

I have to go to Edmonton anyway and I'm thinking I'm getting closer to the big trees so maybe I'll find some wood at a decent price. If I do, I'll buy a bunch and have it on hand for the next boat/boats.....:)
