: I don't worry about scarfing, it is quick and easy and let's me use
: much cheaper materials effectively. Recently I started using a
: bench sander instead of a miter saw to cut the bevels, I find
The bench sander sounds great but I don' have one. I do have a table saw so I built this jig to cut one side of the scarf...

this is the same jig turned around and used for the other side....

This way the blade doesn't have to be perfectly perpendicular to the table top. Although I try and have it a perfect 90 degrees anyway....
This picture shows my gluing process...

The wood colour between pieces is pronounced because of me using a wet rag to clean up the glue...
: I use Titebond III exclusively for scarf joints in solid wood and
: find it is excellent because of its quick grab and water
: cleanup.
I appreciate your confirming it's a good glue to use and the water clean up is exactly why I used it. I really wanted to use epoxy but the clean up would be messy. I don't have any spare wood on the thickness so planing off the glue is not an option. I used an 8:1 ratio and think it looks fine.
If I have any problems, I'll report them here.
Thanks for your input.
