I used 5/8" riser height on my Iggy and have a harder time getting my skirt on, and since have used 3/4". As for saving weight (a totally unrelated matter) I was glassing the inside of the sheer joint of my Black Pearl and lost a foam brush from the end of my extension stick in the stern...dang it, I could not fish it out, so I have a permanent foam brush stow-away in there....weight of 1.5 ounces added with no benefit. Good thing it's so far in that no one will ever see it, but when I post pictures of the Pearl in a couple of weeks anyone reading this can laugh knowing what's stuck up this boat's rear end.....
