: I'm new to the kayaking experience, and entertaining the idea of
: building my own boat. I am 6 feet tall and weigh 210. Should I
: consider this in choosing a particular style of kayak, and if so
: any suggestions?
It depends on what type of paddling you plan to do. If it is for day tripping, then quite a few boats will be in your size range. If you want to go on week long trips, then the total load would be near 300lbs so you would be in bigger boat territory (many places list the DDP, but this is only one metric). There are so many other factors that come into play in boat style and paddling style that you will end up with a compromise of some sort. It would be best to try to paddle as many different boat types to get a feel for things. This is the main reason that many of the people on this board have built more than one kayak (I am working on #3 now, 2 S&G's and now a strip boat). You didn't mention where you are located, but hopefully close enough to one of the shops that you can go visit- many will let you do a short test paddle in several models (I did this at the Pygmy shop in Port Townsend)
