This is a good very light option especially if you already have resin around, I did this for my front bulkhead in order to allow a bit of light in under the deck with the front hatch off. only thing I would add is that fiberglass mat uses a glue to bind the chopped strands together, this glue breaks down with styrine. Styrine is a part of poly and vinyl ester resin and is not found in epoxy. Using epoxy to wet out mat is not the right choice, there is another kind of mat that does not use this glue called stitch mat that is a much better choice. I used two layers of "mat"
