thanks Nick. I cheated a bit on the finish. I used DuPont Chroma Clear. It is an automotive clear coat that I had a friend that is an auto body guy spray it this morning. He did my first kayak and the finish is incredibly tough and dries very fast. He put on three coats ans fast as he could spray it. It was dry to the touch in an hour. It has a very slight orange peel that will sand out with 800 and 1200 wet sandpaper tomorrow. I have some buffing compounds that will take it to a 6000 grit. He told me after I use it a couple of weeks to buff it again and it will look even better.
The old boat (two years old) looks like new.
The only drawback is the stuff is a bit pricey!
