: Hi Tavo,
: Linseed can allow mildew to form on some timber, though I haven't
: had that problem*. I prefer raw as it doesn't film over like
: boiled does, this allows any moisture to dry out of the wood. It
: also allows salt to get into the timber when it gets wet (from
: salt water). Raw does take longer to 'dry' but I mix turpentine
: with it. This seems to speed up the drying effect and might be
: kind of mildew preventive.
: It doesn't need much to oil a frame, a half litre will go a long
: way. Just wipe it on with a cloth, wait a while and wipe again
: to take off excess. Repeat if you want when it looks to have
: soaked in a bit.
: One IMPORTANT rule with linseed and cloth. Open out the cloth flat
: after use. Bunched up, it will generate heat and can
: self-ignite.
: * I had an old "experimental" frame that was raw linseed
: oiled that only hit the water once so it didn't get
: salted/pickled. It was put aside for "salvage" and
: forgotten, outdoors, on the ground. It got hidden in the grass.
: I found it recently when I finally cut the plant life that
: corner and there wasn't any mildew on it. Dried out and a bit
: chewed on by bugs but no mildew.

Thanks for this info... Straight up or diluted oil and if diluted with what and will the sinew wax come off/get sticky from the solvent?
