For Perfection on an entire boat I usually use roll and tip it. I use a 3/16" mohair roller and tip it with a 2" foam brush. For a smaller project I'll just use a foam brush. I spend a few cents more per brush and buy the solvent resistant ones. They are harder to find but last longer and leave a better finish. I've tried bristle brushes and I found I was using vast quantities of solvent. Straight Perfection looks OK but I usually wetsand and polish to a mirror shine. For the past couple of years I've been having my boats sprayed by a pro with a urethane clearcoat and now the Perfection for smaller projects.

Still not sure what's causing your contamination... It's not the paper.
