They (and a few other photo sharing sites) now bury the images, some more effectively than others. It's sometimes for copyright protection (think smugmug.com) where the people are also trying to sell the images as artwork. In Facebook's case it's purely a self-interest thing. They want as much traffic to see the ads they display as they can get. Once you learn the code, it's possible to locate the image if it's not being generated on the fly (like Smugmug).
