I often fair and rough-sand the hull before stripping the deck. My thinking is that I do a better job if I break the big tasks into smaller parts. Fairing and sanding both the hull and deck at the same time can get tedious.

Sometimes I've even fiberglassed the hull exterior before flipping it to do the deck. No problems.
