: I'm not John but here is my 2 cents worth that might even be worth
: a nickel. Adding a skeg to a kayak alters the kayakâs paddling
: characteristics in two ways. It makes the kayak harder to turn
: and it reduces its weathercocking (even to the extent of causing
: it to leecock). You should take that kayak out in a crosswind to
: confirm the skeg is sized to your preferences. If it leecocks
: make the skeg smaller, if it weathercocks too much make the skeg
: bigger.

Thanks for the input. I took the kayak out the other day when I fitted the quick test skeg and the wind was very mellow but still enough to push the back of the boat a little bit. I was taking an educated guess that in harsher conditions it would be just right. I asked this question a couple of weeks ago and got a response from tony olson ( i think) that he put the same style of skeg on the same boat but it was 1 inch and was border line to much so I tried 3/4. I am quite worried about putting in too much but I guess that I could always dumb it down if need be (pain in the ass).
