: the bulkhead I marked the outside of the hull at the place where
: the bulkhead was to go with 1" intervals and using a spirit
: level measured from the level to the hull at the intervals.

The easy way is to put in a rough cardboard bulkhead in place that comes within 1.5" of the kayak and now do a tracing with a pencil or pen in the middle of a 3" disc rolled around the inside of the kayak. Cut this undersize template out and trace it on to your bulkhead material with the same 3" disc and you will have an accurate template. Complex shapes benefit from a smaller diameter disc or wheel.
