That car-topping solution will work, but only just. Those foam blocks are likely not long enough for the kayak's width, I didn't see specs on the Calypso. You can expect at least some damage to your car's finish over the long term. Do yourself a favor and use bow and stern tie downs as a "belt and suspenders" backup... an 8ft kayak probably is not going anywhere, but stuff happens.
