Any room between the legs straight out on the bottom and the masik is pumping room.
My feet are pointed forward a bit too, but instead of being splayed out, as is the case in most low volume kayaks, mine are vertical. With the feet splayed out, even if the heels are together, it's really hard to get much pumping action with the legs and it reduces rotation.
Anyone is free to build a custom deck. But there is only around 6 1/4 inches of sheer depth where the feet go, so some building up in the deck will be necessary. I also think the "Humpdeck" is the greatest feature of this design. It allows comfortable foot room in a low volume design and has a unique look that soon could be all the rage.
: How do you pump your knees with a masik?
: I sit with my legs straight out on the hull, and don't use a seat,
: but I do point my feet forward a bit. I was just confused as to
: why you'd need that clearance if there were enough for you to
: get in past the front edge of the cockpit. Is it uncomfortable
: for you to point your feet forward? My foredeck is too low to
: sit frog-legged. (Night Heron with 1" out of the sheer and
: an additional 2+ out of the deck height forward of the cockpit.)
: I'm not being critical, I'm just trying to understand. What If I
: built one and didn't put in that bit?
