An easy method:
Make a mitre box of two strips thickness and cut the slots for the scarf joint at the angle you need (about 1 in 6).
Place the strips in the mitre box, on the workbench, properly supported over their length as if you were ready to glue them together. i.e one from either end.
Make sure all is straight. Overlap the ends by the required amount (= length of scarf) plus enough to extend out of the mitre box to clamp together at both ends.
Saw the mitre.
Fixed.
