Skin-on-Frame: artificial sinew with polyester?

I've done 2 skins with nylon and artificial sinew (waxed thread). I like the feel of the thread, and wonder if I can use it with polyester. I do understand I can't pull the skin up real tight, so the sinew would be overkill on strength. But, is it OK? Will it take the Rustoleum oil based paint OK?
