: The skeg install went well. It lifts by a cord on deck which leads
: through a hole in the deck down into the skeg box. It lowers by
: a shock cord which can be relaxed easily for storage, but armed
: for paddling. Since it is held down by shock cord, the skeg will
: lift and re-deploy for kelp or harder obstacles (not that any of
: us would ever paddle over one of those...). The exact height can
: be adjusted by letting out only the amount of the control cord
: that you need to in order to get the boat behaviour you want.
: The whole assembly weights about a pound, so it didn't add much
: weight. The rigged kayak weighs in at very close to 30 pounds,
: maybe even slightly less; I didn't weigh it after the shock
: cords and ropes were installed. I will do a thread on the skeg
: design when we get back from our trip, probably sometime in
: early August.

: I will also do a thread on the latches and seals I used for the
: hatch lids. They are convenient to use, and as far as I can tell
: to date, keep the storage compartments bone dry even in rough
: water.

: In the meantime, I will be paddling it lots, and may have other
: comments on the design.
