: I've built a couple of S&G kayaks and am thinking about this
: winters project, I'd like to build a couple of strip boats. I
: just cut down a couple of decent sized cedar trees and am going
: to mill them. I'm going to use a chainsaw to mill the logs down
: to planks (Alaskan saw mill) to finish into strips on my table
: saw. Has anyone else done this? My trees are Eastern Red Cedar,
: will this species of wood be OK to use? Even if it isn't the
: best wood to use I still plan to give it a try.
Generally eastern red cedar is so full of knots that it's pretty much worthless unless you want a nice cedar chest or closet. It's what's used for those things.
