This is OK if you do not roll. Generally you need four inches from coaming to back of seat to be able to layback properly for rolling.

On top the deck will change the vertical center of gravity, giving you input which may affect your judgement of front to back center of gravity. Inside the hatch would be the way to go for your experimentation.
