Hi, I would like some advice please. I have tested a flexible construction glue called PL 200 Powerflex (SMP polymer whatever that means), thinned to paint consistency with white spirits and brushed on Dyson 8 oz polyester. Don't know if it is related to the PL Premium Dave Gentry and others use. I live in Sweden, and the variety of glues/fillers/caulkers in tubes is different to the US. I tested a few other fillers/glues too, but this was good and cheaper. Its hardness is Shore A 50 (like a door seal) whereas PL premium construction adhesive used by Dave Gentry is 27.5 (like a rubber band). The cloth is still rather rubbery and flexible after applying this stuff. Good. Assuming it is similar to other glues in tubes Like PL Premium, which paint sticks best? I have tested exterior latex and it is OK against abrasion but not great. Ordinary oil paint thins with terpentine or white spirit, did not dry properly after 5 days so that's out. The only one part polurethane paints I can get locally are Zar varnish, VERY expensive so not an alternative, and InterluxBrightsides. An alternative to PL 200 would be Hempel's Impreg 1 sealer/primer followed by Impreg 2 (quick-drying, clear urethane alkyd varnish) whch I got cheap. I could paint over that if I did not like the color. Does the PL Premium give a significant ly better impact and abrasion resistence over varnish or paint? It is known for lumps of underwater concrete lumps and rebars under bridges. But also many beautiful castles and gardens and wine. Seems like you have to be an industrial chemist to understand these things (glues etc, not wine). Peter Lord
