I did one coating over 8 oz. polyester. Not sure if the elasticity of the nylon will match up well with the PL Premium (don't know how elastic the PL is).
I've run the kayak up over rocks when beaching, and dropped the bow/stern onto asphalt inadvertently when (un)loading. The PL's held up well. The Rustoleum paint over the PL has scuffed off fairly easily, but it's also very easy to touch up.
The PL is not UV resistant, at all. Locktite's official stance is that UV will cause it to degrade and crack. Be sure to cover the PL with something that is UV resistant.
Thinning it and applying it in more than one coat might be a good idea... the PL's thick enough out of the tube to make it an exercise in frustration when pushing it around the fabric with a spatula. Applying it with a consistent thickness takes time and patience. Thinning it might make it easier to apply without going insane in the process *grin*.
: Howdy,
: I've been thinking for a while about doing a PL premium over nylon
: coating on a kayak I'm about to start building. I've seen some
: members here have used that, and I was just wondering if they
: had any thoughts on how the coating holds up over time. Also,
: did you apply multiple coats and have you considered/attempted
: to thin the PL before you apply it?
: Thanks,
: Luke
