Been watching a lot of videos on rolling, knowing how to do this seems to be a necessity, i hear some of them talking about a recovery side knee, lets say ur rolling clockwise, which knee is the recovery side? I will have a partner when i try this, can anybody give me a little more insight to this? Kevin
When upside down, the recovery side knee is the knee on the opposite side that you're setting your paddle up on. It's the that knee rotates the boat towards your paddle and then upright. If you engage the knee closest to your paddle, it pulls the boat back upside down.
Before you attempt to roll, go to a dock or lean on the front of someone's boat and learn the hip snap. Do it over and over and over until you are able to do it with limited weight on your hands.
You'll learn quicker if you take a lesson from a qualified instructor, but you can learn on your own. I did. It just took longer than it should have and built bad habits that I later needed to break.
