I've used 1/8-inch strips with success. I'd suggest skip the internal stems and use Gilpatrick's stem construction method. Use 3.2 oz. tight weave glass which uses less epoxy. Build your bulkheads from fiberglass instead of wood. Carbon fiber is good.
