The heading says it all, right?
Getting ready to varnish kayak and started with hatches. Last night, wet sanded to 400 and wiped with lacquer thinner. Applied first coat and woke to a mirror finish. After work today, I wet sanded again to 400 and wiped off residue with lacquer thinner on same rag. Yes I even read the directions! I now know that special thinner 216 or 333 isn't lacquer thinner!!! It did do a beautiful job bubbling off my mirror finish, however...
When you're finished laughing, could someone suggest an alternative solvent readily available for tack rags? I also have no luck with store bought tack rags. I think they leave a residue not compatable with varnish.
Thanks for any advice, Jim
And, in passing, I know lacquer is not varnish but I've used lacquer thinner for so many projects especially epoxy that I just reached for it without thinking...Excuses, excuses
