If graphite isn't polished it's matt black. I don't worry about the finish in mine, it's there to protect the hull, so I just roll it on.

This winter sometime I'm planning to build Bryan's design with a graphite bottom and ebonized topsides, will be black, or nearly black, but the ebonizing will have to be varnished so will be gloss.
